It is more important for a bartender to have personality than experience.
EDIT:
Many bars will hire inexperienced bartenders… Hell, I’ve worked for bars that did. It is good that you have the certification… not completely necessary if you ask me, but good. Bartenders need to be friendly but stern, cool under pressure and able to multitask. It is also a good idea to have proper math skills.
I hate to say this, but you probably won’t get hired. Restaurants and bars hire only experienced bartenders. Don’t get discouraged. They will hire server, barbacks and bus persons without experience. Restaurants have a very high employee turnover rate and they like to promote from within. If you have 6 months to a year of experience being a server and if they like you and you have top notch customer service skills, you’ll have no problem becoming a bartender.
Bullshit and say you have experience as a kitchen porter. prepping deserts & sandwiches a few years back (make sure to say a FEW years) the more ability and personality you show the better the chance. Good luck man!
