Is a resume really necessary for a bartending job? They pretty much know the objective, and your work history is all going to be on the application? Is it so that if they don’t like the resume they don’t give out an application or what? Other than that why do you even need to make a resume for that kind of job?

You are correct in your thinking… but if a resume is needed, and you need the job…then you need a resume.

It’s just one of those things….

Writing a resume takes time and effort, and by submitting a resume showing your background reveals to employers that you are serious about that position. Employers that are asking for them want to know more than the basic questions found on a typical application. They want to know where you bartended and what type of establishment it was. It gives them more in depth knowledge of your bar background.

Very simply, a resume looks more professional. Yah, they know the objective, but putting together a resume takes time. It shows seriousness, and a resume that’s well put together and designed, shows attention to detail.

They also get a more in-depth look at your experience and training, whereas most applications just ask you to list the employer, phone number and position. Sometimes, they’ll ask why you left and even less, they’ll ask about your duties. Why not just put it all in your resume (save “why you left” for the interview)?
