To get a new job in bartending, is it a good idea to refresh knowledge of coctails with a book on cocktails?

For example, when changing from one bartending job to another, and you havent made drinks in a few weeks, Is it a good idea to go ahead and refresh your memory with a bunch of drink recipes from a book on cocktails that you bought independenlty of any job to be familiar with recipes, taking into account, every recipe of a particular drink seems different depending on who is making it, and every place will have their own way of making a particular drink? What is the word on this?

It couldn’t hurt, but not all people use the same name for the same drink.
Some people call hand grenades Pearl Harbors. So you’ll have to deal with the lingo issues.
Silly question when you have the answer. A professional bartender keeps up with the latest in Guides and Drinks. Food and Beverage Suppliers have great booklets that they give away for free. And Internet Access is the best.
studying is always a plus! u never know when you apply for your new job if they quoiz u on ur knowldege, u want to look professional right??? so def study and refresh!
You are correct to take into account the local recipes of a drink. Any good bartender over they’re career will write his/her own recipes and keep them over the years as well as supplementing with books (Playboy makes a great bartenders guide), and Internet recipes of the same drink. If you are unsure at all ask the customer, they usually know what is in their drinks or at least how they like them made. A good example of this is any drink that has more than one type of liquor in it: Sex on the beach, Harvey Wall banger, Moheeto, Hurricane, Long Island Ice Teas and more commonly a Martini. There is several ways to make martinis. Be versatile, up to date on drinks as well as being a little business savy and you can make a great deal of money. Good luck!
