American Bartending School

American Bartending School
What is the difference b/w bartending and bar waitressing?
I know bartenders usually mix the drinks, but do waitresses have to, too? I recently graduated school, and came back “home” to find no jobs in my field of study. I’m looking for something part-time to get me through – something like waitressing or sales, anything. There was an ad in the paper for a bartender, but it doesn’t list qualifications – just: “has to be able to work with little supervision.” I waitressed for a short time in college, but know nothing about drinks. They say “no phone calls,” and want me to apply in person. Would it be worth inquiring about, or do you think they definitely want an experienced bartender (this is a private club, BTW – I’m guessing an American Legion or something similar)? I do see ads in the paper occasionally for bar waiters/resses – maybe I should wait for that?
You are right when you said a bartender makes the drinks. Some nite clubs do have waitress that do have to make part of the drink-such as knowing what glass to use and the mixer that goes in the drink and the bartender will than finish the drink. You did say that this place you are asking about is an American Legion or something similar. I have worked in a VFW as a bartender for many years and they usually do not have the fancy drinks that other nite clubs have so bar tending in this type of club is easy. However they do have other rules that have to be followed to the letter. You should look into it. It is not hard work and you meet a lot of nice older people.
At any celebration or social gathering, most people will want to have some sort of a drink, whether it’s a coffee, a soft drink, or an alcoholic beverage. Non alcoholic drinks are the easiest to serve, because you can simply pour them out of a bottle without any mixing or additions.
To serve alcoholic drinks, you need to either know some bartending facts and bartending tricks or hire a professional bartender. There are schools you can attend that are devoted to training people to become top notch bartenders. These schools teach both basic skills as well as the bartending facts that you should know.
In each of these classes the students will be given hands-on training in bartending and mixing drinks. As students advance through the studies they are educated in the different aspects of bartending and taught a variety of bartending facts.
Classes will cover ways to create different kinds of alcoholic drinks, and will tell you the proper names for all of them. Also, a bartender in training will learn how to make many drinks simultaneously, keeping all of the orders straight in his or her head to provide great service in a speedy way.
Fast service is very essential at a bar and also at a party. If customers are not served in a timely manner they most likely will leave and your boss would not like that. This also shows the bartender in training how to handle these stressful situations in a relaxed and positive way.
In such circumstances, it is important to know the bartender facts. Students learn how to be responsible bartenders, and also how to make and serve drinks. They will learn the safety guide for serving drinks to a variety of customers. The school teaches many other aspects of bartending to its students
For this reason they are superior bartenders and can therefore find high paying jobs in different areas of the hospitality and entertainment fields. Bartending makes a great part-time job. This means you can keep your present career and still have an opportunity to make great money tending bar part-time.
