How do I become a bartender at 18?
Hi! I’m turning 18 in a month and I really would like to become a bartender. I was wondering whether or not I should take bartending classes or whether I should try to get a job right away and learn from there? Also, I was wondering if bars would hire an 18 year old girl? And if so, where should I look?
Any input would be great!
You need to get your RSA – Which is Responsible Service of Alcohol. This is a course which can be completed at TAFE. It takes about a week.

The most important factor of a bartending school is the Job placement services.
Some experienced bartenders will go to bartending school after moving to a new location just for the schools Job Placement services. Schools that establish relationships with bars and restaurants around the area are a plus.
Questions that you should ask the bartending schools are
How many graduates have found jobs after taking the bartending course
Names of bars, restaurants, or establishments that hired from the bar school
How long the bartending school has been open
Do they have a program where students can guest bartend for experience at an establishment
What resources are available after graduation to help the student find a job
How many hours of class instruction is included
How long will the job placement service be available after graduation
The instructors experience in bartending
Good bartending schools like good universities have resources for students to find jobs during and after certification.
Many include lifetime job placement services and refresher classes. Be wary of bartending schools that just opened or do not tell you about job placement.
If you want to work as a bartender and need help finding a job, choosing the right school is important. A schools job placement assistance program is the first thing you should investigate. One should never make a decision to attend a school without first visiting it. Not all bartending courses and schools are equal. You wouldn’t buy a car without viewing it in person?
Currently 17 out of 50 States require mandatory server training.
Of the remaining 33 states, most have instated laws that offer establishments that hire bartenders who took alcohol server training programs:

Liability Defence
Mitigation of Penalties
Protection of their liquor license by getting Alcohol server training, you are protecting yourself and your employer when sued.
