Making Scotch whiskey is not a difficult process. The first step would be to gather the three ingredients. These ingredients are barley, yeast, and water. Step number one would consist of malting the barley. The barley is soaked in water for three days. Then the barley is spread out to germinate. Then it is dried in a kiln.
When making Scottish whiskey peat from the moors in Scotland is used as the fuel. As the smoke drifts through the drying barley it is this smoke that gives the Scotch it’s flavor. Once the barley is malted it is ground and mixed with water.
This process will make the starch in the malt convert to wort which is a sugary substance. Then it is added along with yeast to a fermenting vat. Where the wort converts to crude alcohol called wash.
Now it’s time for the most important step which is distilling. During the distilling process the alcohol gets separated from the wash. The whiskey should be distilled twice. The distilling process uses heat to make the alcohol form into a vapor and rise to the top of the still. The vapor then travels through tubes and is cooled back into liquid. This is the separation process.
By going through the distillation process a second time only the finest Scotch whiskey will make the grade. If you have ever wondered about the old TV shows where they talk about having a still, and you wondered what all of those pots and tubes were for. Now you know. Making Scotch is not that complicated making great Scotch is an art form.

When bartending, for what type of drinks do I use a shaker and what types do I just build in a glass?
