From the moment the neighbor comes over and says, “Let’s throw a block party!” until the street is cordoned off and guests arrive, various aspects of the party’s menus are tweaked. This is with good reason: menus are really important.
In the case of a church festival, family reunion or block party there are often many different menus. Typically this type of gathering is planned by separate groups or households so that a wide variety of menus are offered, sometimes for sale or donation. When this is the case it is especially important to use some method of telling guests about these different foods. This can include information about preparation, ingredients or both.
When there are many different groups it might be helpful to distribute menus with blanks to be filled in by the various food preparation groups. They could offer histories, reminiscences or culinary and cultural information for their menus. If enough information is gathered it would be a nice adjunct to offer a compilation of this information in booklet form. This could be sold for a fundraiser with careful editing.
For the invitation phase of the gathering briefer descriptions of these menus need to be included. The invitation would vary with the type of occasion. A block party or festival might use flyers and a newspaper article as the mass invitation. Dignitaries or special guests could be sent individualized invitations with abbreviated menus inserted. Of course family reunions would also require that as many relatives as possible were sent invitations by mail.
The actual buffet tables at these functions should also proudly display uniform menus. These could be prepared and distributed by organizers or blank forms distributed for individual food preparers to fill in.
When the event finally takes place and tables are filled with southern cooking, Cajun favorites, or bakery basics you’ll be glad you went to the bother of proper menus preparation.

Why does my cat prefer to drink water off the shower floor?
She always has a fresh supply of water in her bowl, but if we have a shower, she waits until we finish and then rushes into the shower stall to drink.
What kind of bowls do you use for her food and water? Stainless steel or glass are the best choices. Cats have an excellent sense of smell, and since their noses are so close to their mouths, they work hand in hand. Often cat’s don’t like plastic because it makes their food smell like plastic. Also, if the bowl is too deep/narrow the cat may refuse to use it because their whiskers are very sensitive and they don’t like them touching the side of the bowl. In addition, it’s always best to feed your cat either natural spring water, or distilled water; because the water from your tap has metals and other contaminates that aren’t good for kitty. But cat’s being attracted to a running faucet is very normal…
“Not surprisingly, cats prefer their water fresh, also. The motion of water coming out of a faucet is very appealing to their sense of hearing, as well as of sight, and possibly even of smell. Even if your cat’s water dish looks clean, bacteria can collect very quickly especially in ceramic and plastic bowls. Always use stainless steel bowls for food and for water for your kitty. And, it is best to change his water daily, after rinsing out his water bowl thoroughly, or even washing it daily. Water that has been standing even a few hours loses oxygen; cats are smart enough to know that the freshest water still has lots of oxygen in it, which is certainly true in the running fresh water right out of the tap.“
